2024 Fall Online Introduction to Filmmaking for Therapists
In this 2.5 hour workshop, therapist participants will explore the transformative power of video making in art therapy. In the workshop you will:
Understand how video making regulates emotions, enhances emotional awareness, develops identity, and builds self-esteem;
Create a simple therapeutic video.
No prior experience with video making is required. The workshop will be facilitated by Art Therapist Bevan Klassen and Art Therapy Practicum Student Lara MacPherson.

Level 1 - Exploring Video Making in Therapy: An Overview Choose One: Saturday, March 9, 16, OR 23, 2024 11:00AM - 1:30PM Central Time (Manitoba) Online Workshop using Zoom $60* In this introduction, you will discover how video making can become a powerful tool to help those you work with in your professional practice. Together, we will begin by creating a group video that demonstrates how mindful films, digital stories, animation, and music videos can be integrated into a therapeutic process. Then, participants will have an opportunity to create their own videos. This hand-on workshop will provide an overview of how video making supports emotional regulation and identity development integrating a selection of trauma-informed, clinical approaches.
Level 2 - Playing in a Therapeutic Digital Studio: Mindful Film, Music Video & Animation Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Central Time (Manitoba) Online Workshop using Zoom $175* In this one-day immersive workshop, you will create variety video making products that you can use to help those you work with in your professional practice. Participants will begin by exploring film making as a mindful and self-regulating experience. Next, individuals will create a music video integrating storytelling and animation techniques to support identity development. As participants share their work, witness the power of the group to hold the voice of each filmmaker. You will learn how to ensure video making is an ethical, trauma-informed and inclusive art therapy process. Recommended Prerequisite: Level 1 - Exploring Video Making in Therapy: An Overview These groups are presented by Deep Focus Art Therapyfor Art Therapists or other mental health professionals.
Level 3 - Discover Your Story: Digital Storytelling Two Saturdays, April 13 & 20, 2024 from 10:00am - 5:00pm Central Time (Manitoba) Online Workshop using Zoom $350 * Over an immersive two Saturdays, you will tell an important story from your life with the intention of supporting others to reauthor their own narrative. You will be introduced to a number of therapeutic activities to discover and translate a personal life event into a set of emotionally regulating art activities. By giving voice to what is hidden, the video making process breaks the silence and takes back power by reorganizing and reframing stories. As participants share their work, witness the power of the group to hold the voice of each filmmaker. Explore Calm through Video Making for Adults: An Online Creative Expression Series
Five Thursday Evenings May 18 to June 15, 2023 7:00 - 9:30 PM Central Daylight Time $350 Life has become more and more stressful with many people experiencing increasing levels of overwhelm and anxiety. In this weekly 5-session series, discover a creative and inspiring way to work with anxiety resulting from traumatic experiences or difficult changes in relationship, work, or health. In each online session, you will express your inner filmmaker creating your own mindful videos to explore pathways to calm using footage from a media library. In each session, participants will have the opportunity to share their new videos and and connect with others as a healing process. No video making experience is required.This online class is limited to 8 participants. As part of registration, I provide free one-on-one online demonstration of the process and what you can expect in the group.

$50 You will explore video making as art therapy through creating your own mindful video. You will have access to a digital studio and media library as a play space to express a felt sense or an intention. As participants share their work, experience the power of video making as therapy in a group. If you want to understand how to implement video making as therapy in your practice, attend the weekend Intermediate Workshop. This online class is limited to 12 participants.
INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOP: Using Digital Storytelling as Art Therapy 2-Day Workshop, Friday, Apr. 14 & Saturday, April 15th, 2023 from 10:00am - 6:00pm Central Daylight Time, both days $350 Over 2 days, you will learn how to implement video making in your therapy practice. I will guide you in translating your experience making a video in the introductory workshop into a set of art activities you can use with those you help. This will include making a draft of your own digital story as an inclusive, trauma-informed and ethical art therapy process. This online class is limited to 12 participants. Note: The Introductory Workshop is a prerequisite to taking the Intermediate Workshop.

Exploring Your Cancer Experience Through Video
This is a 5-week online group to explore and express your experience with cancer by creating videos. Training and support is provided to assist first-time video makers using a stock media library or personal video clips, photos, music or sound. The group runs Friday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. from February 10 to March 10, 2023.

Video in Art and Expressive Arts Therapy: Sharing Stories from the Heart
This weekend online course is for art and expressive art therapists who want to help others to share stories and feelings by creating videos. Digital communication amplifies heart stories with sounds and images. This class will introduce a trauma-informed, expressive process using the Expressive Therapy Continuum as a map of how to pair video approaches with unique personal challenges. The group runs December 3 - 4th, 2022.
